Budget-Friendly Winter trip to Aspen, Co with Kids

Aspen, Colorado is beautiful at any time of year and while certain times of the year it can be more expensive, we found quite a few things to do this winter on a budget.

Traveling as a family tends to always increase the price of travel, but finding ways to travel on a budget is always helpful!

Hiking at Hallam Lake

This lake is located at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and is open to the public all year long. Not only can you walk around the lake, but you can borrow binoculars to scope out the wildlife in the area. The also have guided tours throughout the year that are definitely worth checking out.

Play in the snow

Theres nothing better than playing in the snow! Even better when the snow has fallen the night before, so you get fresh powder to roll around in or make snowball fights etc. This was one of my kids favorite activities because we don’t get snow like this in Atlanta. This is a great budget friendly activity because its FREE!

Take an art workshop at the Aspen Museum

The Aspen Art Museum is free to the public, so even if you don’t take any of the free workshops, exploring the museum is a treat in and of itself. Many if not all of their workshops are free, so this could be a great budget friendly activity for the whole family.

Visit the Aspen Recreation Center

Aspen Recreation has so much to do and all of it is included in your admission fee ($25.50 adult | $23.50 youth). From ice skating, to swimming, rock climbing or even sledding (must purchase sled for $20), there is something to do here for the entire family.

One thing to note about spending your winter adventure in Aspen; the beginning to mid January is the coldest time to visit, so be prepared for chilling temps if you visit during the month of January!
